As we enjoy the parades, picnics, and other festivities that go along with the Fourth of July, it’s important to pause and remember what it is that we’re celebrating: civic engagement, freedom of expression, and equal opportunity for all.
I also want to acknowledge three groups that are on my mind this Independence Day:
I’m proud to be supported by a number of veterans, including former District 2 candidate Joe LaJeunesse, a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, as well as the Veteran Student Organization at my alma mater, San Jose State. We must do more to support these individuals who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom.
During this campaign, I have had the honor of becoming better acquainted with the thriving Vietnamese community in District 2. I’ve been overwhelmed by their passion for civic engagement and improving the quality of life for their neighbors.
District 2 is home to dozens of vibrant neighborhoods, each with its own unique character and history. On this holiday, it’s exciting to watch neighbors come together to celebrate our shared love for community and country.
Here’s wishing you a safe and sane Fourth of July weekend!
